Were you the type of kid that could eat anything and you still stayed thin? Well…I was never that kind of kid. I do know some people like that and by and large as the years went by, that lovely ability to eat anything and stay thin went poof suddenly and they packed on the pounds quickly.
Well the truth is for the vast majority of folks, this is true. It does catch up. So it’s important to eat healthily from the start or at least for us, I suppose it’s too late but, not too late to teach our children healthy eating habits.
She came for a brief visit to see my new place and go for a walk. She has been in bed for two months and just had to get out and move.
For a treat, I gave her several end cuts from my olive oil soap and goat milk soaps then we walked back to her house. After a brief rest, we walked to a nearby hospital that has a very nice fitness park and walking track. While we walked, we caught up and discussed many things. She brought up the fact that she thinks that her diet from years past has brought her to this present state.
I am big on eating and being healthy overall, a healthy whole-being. A sound body, mind and spirit. When one is out of balance, so are the others. It is just the way things are. Like I blogged yesterday, I am on a quest to lose at least 50 pounds by June 2011. My cousin and I have made a pact to walk at least a mile and a half daily.
I truly am looking forward to getting back into shape! Here are a few great tips to get you started and a great beauty recipe to try for when you are feeling like you want to flaunt your new self 🙂

So with that quote in mind, let’s start 🙂
First you have to mentally prepare yourself and WANT to get fit. That is the MOST important factor in your journey to a healthier you. If you are not mentally ready, the rest of you will not come along for the ride.
Second Start off by simply eating smaller portions. You do not have to change your eating habits drastically to start – that most often leads people to rebel and give up too easily. No seconds. Slowly give up desserts in favor of healthier choices and/or smaller portions. Choose Popcorn, trail mix, a few small cookies, a thin slice of cake etc…
Third Start out walking or stretching depending on your physical ability. Look up some exercises to get you started quickly. It’s important to find the right exercise regimen for you and your physical ability. Build yourself up to do more and more slowly. Set small weekly goals and challenge yourself to achieve each one. Keep a journal about your successes and failures. It’s important to learn from your failures – look at them as learning experiences instead of steps backwards in your journey.
Fourth Pamper yourself! Reward your successes. Not with food but with a special spa day or do something for yourself – a small trinket, a new dress etc.. and never forget to have fun! Have fun with your fitness regimen. Make a pact with a friend like I did with my cousin.
Fifth Don’t tell anyone that you are “on a diet” keep it a fun secret and just let the results speak for themselves 🙂
Bonus Tip: Apple Cider Vinegar as a weight loss and detox aid.
Weight-Loss & Detox: Add 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar to a 1 liter water bottle. For daily weight and pH balance maintenance as well as great detox benefits. Drink this throughout the day to cleanse your body and kidneys. This will help speed up the process by which the body eliminates any toxins in your system.
The Pamper Me Recipe
Make plans to go out for a nice day to an outdoor activity like a craft fair, flea market, arboretum etc… First wake early and stretch. Eat a healthy breakfast, then grab a good book. Run some bath water.
Add the following:
1/2 cup epsom salt, 1/2 cup baking soda and essential oil of your choice. Soak for about 15 to 20 minutes. Wash and rinse as usual then follow-up with a great moisturizing bath oil on damp skin and pat dry.
Next pack a healthy snack like trail mix and your water with Apple Cider Vinegar. Meet that friend for your day out. Enjoy your day walking around in the fresh air. After your day out, eat a healthy dinner and enjoy an evening of rest.
